Buster

Buster

Age:2.5Weight: 90Location: DoylestownNicknames: BuddyGood with other dogs?: Yes, Other: Yes, with females, unknown with males..Good with cats? other: Buster is a big playful guy, and he has been fine with his foster sister kitty, who is very dog savvy and gets out of the way fast! Due to his size and sight disability, he could easily trample a cat or any other small animal and therefore not recommended to a home with small animals.Good with children? OK for kids over: 13 or older, Buster is a big boy who just can’t tell what he is running over. Would not be suited for children or people with limited mobility.Activity Preference: other: Moderate: Walks and inside play. Can play off leash in a fenced area after he has had proper time to learn the layout.IQ: Has some shining momentsBuster’s favorite things: Being by your side, playing with balls as rewards, chewing on his marrow bones, cleaning out the toy box, eating and then being by your side again.Buster is good at: cuddling, playing, other: Playing find it and holding down the sofa.Ideal home: other: Either as an only dog or with another large laid-back dog who likes to share, a fenced yard with limited obstacles and adults who like to play and be home.Training Needs: leash training, other: Buster is a newly blind bulldog and needs to continue learning how to use his other senses to navigate, as well as improve his basic commands, like recall and listen to commands and not everything else around him. Buster’s demanding barking has decreased, and his family will need to continue not reinforcing this behavior for ongoing progress. Buster is also learning to tolerate unpleasant sounds like…the vacuum. Ok, he really doesn’t like the vacuum, but he has made great progress with other noises like the hair dryer and will continue to improve with positive reinforcement. He is food and ball motivated (he hears them bounce) and enjoys training.Health issues: Buster came to ABR severely malnourished, newly blind and decompensated from a shelter environment. He is being treated for a possible infectious disease causing the blindness and is almost back to his target weight. Buster will remain mostly blind with some hope of retina reattachment in one eye, which will still only provide limited vision.

Meet Buster

Buster is all you love about the American Bulldog Breed. He is a big, loveable guy who wants to be with his people and will run off whatever scary sound is happening in the next room. He is an extremely sweet boy who loves belly rubs and laying on you foot, just to make sure you are still by his side. Buster is a little…talkative but hey, he has to communicate somehow. Buster loves to follow you around the house but is also happy finding a nice soft spot and sleeping off his breakfast. Buster has met many new people and has had no issues with anyone. Because of Buster’s size and strength, it is important his family works with him on leash behavior to keep him safe. Although he has improved, he will still dart at sounds, so secure leash handling by an adult is a must. Buster is a great dog who would love to have a family who can help him navigate the world and he will be your best friend.
