Our deepest gratitude goes out to our volunteers. Without them, ABR doesn’t exist.
Thank you to all of our area reps, our foster homes, transporters and to everyone who has made such generous donations.

Please be sure to visit our adoptables link for more of our available dogs.

Thanks for visiting and as always, we appreciate your support. Have a great week everyone!

Here are a few of our special kids:

We need help!!!!

Cindy Lou Who will be a Cinderella story. The sweetest most gentle girl who has probably been neglected her entire life is about to become a princess. Cindy Lou is about 30 pounds underweight at 94 pounds, she is a big girl. She had generalized Demodex mange (non contagious to people or animals) which causes a secondary skin infection, inflammation, eye irritation and bleeding. She loved her first bath in probably forever and stood there like a lady. She lets you treat her eyes, she takes her meds and she walks well on a leash. She met Jelly today, she sniffed him with her tail between her legs and then laid down next to him. Luckily her new foster mom is an esthetician and will have her skin looking 5 years younger in no time. Our vet guesses that Cindy Lou Who is not that old at all, she is between 4-5 but just neglected for years. All she wants to do is kiss you on your chin. Cindy likes other dogs and is located in PA.
Lydia is a 1 year old beauty again with the dreaded Demodex. She loves other dogs and is getting better by the minute. We really could use donations. If you would rather donate items, Lydia needs Promeris, SulfOxydex Shampoo and Cefalexin. Lydia is chillin’ in Florida.
Miss Clarabelle went to see the Opthomologist for a recheck and he thinks that with the drops we have restored her vision to about 5%. Now we need to address her breathing issues. One surgeon quoted us $2,500 to 3,000 to open up her nostrils, clip and tuck her soft pallette. As cute as the snorting is, we are going to fix it. Clarabelle resides in PA.
Droopy…where to begin?? After having multiple surgeries Neuter, Entropian it is now time to address Droopy’s prosthetic foot. Droopy’s foster mom ordered him a really cool Droopy-Mobile wait till you see the photos. Hopefully the buggy will be temporary. Almost everyone in Florida knows Droopy.
Daisy had her right hip and knee surgery 2 weeks ago thanks to all of wonderful people who donated to make it possible for her to be on her way to a pain free life. She is such a wonderful dogs and deserves to live pain free for the first time in her short life. She has 6 more weeks of rehabilitative physical therapy while we beg for donations, once again, for donations to have her left hip and knee repaired. Daisey is in FL.
Hello! I’m new here, just flew in from North Carolina. I am here in Maryland to get my heartworm treatment. My name’s Tyson, but I’m not really like a brawler like Iron Mike, I’m more refined like Lennox Lewis. I’m 2 (and a half) years old, full-grown and weigh in at almost 60lbs, so I’m a short, stocky kinda guy. I’m calm, cool and collected, rode well in the plane and the car, so maybe I can try a train someday too! I ease right into new situations and love to greet people while holding my noggin out for ear rubs, neck scratches and head pats. I really like scratchies right on my tan patches by my ears. If you let me, I’ll jump into your arms for hugs.

Still Waiting : /

Tanzy is a real character, she is happy 24-7! She does know how to sit and is pretty decent on a leash, crate trained, housebroken, does not chew or get into things. She is a confident girl, athletic but calm in the house. She does not get on the furniture. She can not live with cats, she definitely wants to chase them but she does adore every person she meets big and small. Tanzy is about 12- 14 months old. She would love a big male to romp with.
I’m Kettle! Being the true lady that I am, I’m quiet and gentle. I also enjoy the company of other dogs. I was in a high kill shelter in Georgia when the good people from AB rescue realized what a sweet girl I am and got me out of there just in time! They brought me up here to Maryland for a second chance at having a family of my own! I’ve been in the rescue’s kennel for a few months now, patiently waiting for my chance to enjoy the finer things in life, like lots of hugs and kisses and walks. If you would like to give this wonderful lady a warm, comfortable loving home, please fill out the adoption application at right here! I’m in Maryland.

Hi everyone, its Mandy giving a shout out for me and my sister Sandy and boy are we lookin’ good. I went on an outing to Pen Veterinary Clinic and EVERYONE loved me, I was the center of attention in the waiting room and with the staff. I am the sweetest dog ever and will make someone a great companion. The shelter I came from said I was around two years old but, the doctor at Penn said “no way!” They think I am under a year because my molars have not fully errupted. I don’t act much like a puppy, I like to play but my favorite thing to do is sit in someone’s lap! I get along great with the dogs I am living with, even the cat. I am crate trained but still working on being 100% housetrained Livin’ in PA

Augustus is a young boy who loves, absolutely loves the girl dogs but isn’t too keen on boy dogs or cats. Luckily he’s young enough to be trained (as far as boy dogs) but I wouldn’t push the ‘cat issue’. Augustus is approximately 1 year old and is doing great in his foster home with his 2 girlfriends. He wants a home where he can be the main man and would love to be with a lady dog or two. He is so so cute in person, once you meet him, you will love him, he is so much fun and so eager to be your best friend for life. Augustus is in FL.

Joe is a sweet American Bulldog/Yellow Lab mix who is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Joe is learning basic commands, putting on weight and learning to share his beloved Kong toy. He enjoys fetching the Kong and has endless endurance! Joe needs extra training to become a calmer inside dog. He gets along with other dogs and is very friendly and playful. You will need to fill out an application for Joe with the American Bulldog Rescue at www.AmericanBulldogRescue.org Please see other adorable photos of Joe under “View our Adoptables”
Jayden is a 5 year old English Bulldog mix being fostered in suburban Philadelphia. She is a friendly, playful girl who wants to please her owner. She likes to play with different toys, loves belly rubs and is content to lay at your feet while you read or work on the computer. She enjoys her walks and is almost puppy- like in her curiosity about leaves blowing across the street or watching a bird hop through the leaves. Squirrels get the most attention and a good grip on her leash is needed if she spies a squirrel. She also enjoys running at full speed in the large outdoor enclosure at the foster mom’s home. She knows Sit, Off and Wait. Foster mom is working on Down. Jayden is a great eater and is currently about 42 pounds. S

New Arrivals : }

I’m Wally. I am an American Bulldog but I am really kind of a sissy. What is a really wimpy dog? I shoulda been one of them. I was attacked once by another dog and got lots of cuts. One on my eye and another really big one on my chest. I never fought back. I pee like a girl and am noooot one for confrontation. I am pretty quiet and know how to sit. I saw chickens and I didn’t care. I love care rides because my tongue and ears flap around then I nap. I’m about 3 years old but I think I’m really still just a baby. I’m really really lovable in PA!

So, I was on this thing called the “euthanasia list” in a horrible scary place. I really was only sneezing and they said that I was not able to be adopted because sick dogs can’t be adopted??? whaaaaaaat? Well, I was sprung and I’m feeling great, my sneezing is almost gone. I’ve met chickens and pigs and could care less, they are just fun to watch. I am housebroken and I am good on a leash and know how to sit. I am a big tall handsome guy who would be your best friend forever. Barry is also in PA.
Piper is approximately 14 weeks old and apparently hasn’t been treated well in her short little life. She must have been kept in a crate for an inordinate amount of time as she has under-developed muscle tone in her back legs which is getting better every day with all the playing and exercising she’s getting with some of her doggy friends. She will need soft food for the next few months as she has very little baby teeth left probably from chewing on the crate she was confined in all day long. She is getting scheduled for x-rays next week to take a peek inside her back legs to determine if there is a medical problem that needs attention. Piper would love to be a member of your family where she can get all the exercise and play time that puppies need to develop into strong and healthy adults. Please go to our Paypal site if you would like to make a donation to help pay for her medical bills to date.

Hi! I’m a new guy on the block, somebody named me “Cookie“, but I don’t think that fits me. I’m more of a young guy from the old neighborhood that everybody knows and loves as “Frankie the Kid”. I’ve got gold eyes that will make the ladies swoon. I’m only 7 months old, so I have some growing to do, but I’ll only be around 55-60lbs. I’m gonna need a mentor to lead me the right way, show me the ways of the world and teach me to be an even better young man than I already am. Cookie is in MD
