Penny’s Happy Tail

Posted: January 22nd, 2009

Dear Jodi,

I wanted to drop you a quick line and let you know how things are going with Penny. The last time we spoke things were not going too well.  Penny was pretty much ruling the house and because of that her aggression was getting worse and worse.  Thankfully, I took your advice and checked out the “Nothing in Life is Free” website. I am happy to say that from that point on things have only been getting better.  Penny has made almost a complete turnaround. She has her moments (don’t we all) but has been nothing but joy since we’ve starting disciplining her differently. She has almost completely stopped her biting, only bringing it out when my husband plays a little too roughly for her liking.  And she no longer barks at me incessantly. I can now sit on the couch for entire evening with her laying on the floor under my feet. She used to be an avid dishwasher licker but I have now gotten her to the point where she can sit right next to the open dishwasher and not touch a dish.

The best part about that is not that she isn’t licking the dishes, but more so that she is actually listening to us. She has also been great when we have visitors. She’ll come over for some attention when they walk through the door but she never jumps up on them and will eventually walk away to go lay down. We still have a few issues with her and other dogs in our complex – we think part of the problem is that she is extremely protective of us and feels that the entire place is her’s – but we are continuing to work with her on that every day. And we have good news – we’ve bought a house, complete with a fenced in back yard! We are beyond excited to be able to let Penny run around and enjoy the outdoors. As it is now she loves to explore in all the bushes, so now she will have her own yard with her own bushes to explore for however long she wants. I’ve attached some pictures of both Penny and the backyard of our new house. We close at the end of February but I’ll be sure to send more pictures of Penny enjoying her yard after the move. I know that in the contract it stated that we needed to notify you of a move so I’ve included our new address at the bottom.

Thank you so much for all of your help and for finding such a perfect match for us in Penny.  All of your advice has made such a difference.  We can’t imagine life without her now.

Thanks again!!!
Katie & Aaron
