Buddy
December 27, 2009

Jodi,
It is with a very heavy heart that we write this email to you, especially after sending you our Holiday card where Buddy looked so happy and content.  Both Mary and I wanted to let you know that today we had to put Buddy to sleep.  While I write this email its hard for me to write these words down, and I can’t imagine how it will be for you to read them.  Earlier this morning, Buddy was having some respiratory issues which we initially had thought to be some form of cold. As his condition did not improve as the day went on, we decided to take him to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital to ensure he was okay.  Upon arriving Buddy’s was having severe issues breathing.  During his examination the doctors uncovered a series of growths going down his esophagus.  As we were talking with the doctors regarding course of care, Buddy went into full cardiac arrest.  The doctors were able to provide him oxygen and make him comfortable, and upon further examination the doctors uncovered that Buddy growths seemed to have been attributed to form of Lymphoma.  The best case scenario they could give us was 6 months with aggressive surgery and chemotherapy.  Thus came the hardest decision we had to make as it did not seem a fair way for Buddy to live, and the doctors agreed.  Therefore we rallied around our lovable giant, held his hand and said goodbye.  While our hearts are filled with grief we take solace in knowing that Buddy was loved to the very end by us and everyone he came in contact with, and that he is not in any pain.  We were happy to be able to spend this Christmas with him as he was in good spirits and the life of the Holiday as always.

Mary and I just wanted to let you know of this latest situation and to give you a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping bring Buddy into our lives.  We will always cherish our time with him and will never forget the joy he brought to us.

We applaud your efforts for helping find these lovable animals safe, warm and loving homes.
All our best,
Mike and Mary
