Meet Sweetums

Her name tells you all you need to know. Sweetums is happy to see everyone and wants to be friends with all dogs. She loves to give kisses and fancies herself as a lap dog. We cannot fathom why anyone would dump her but she was plucked off the streets of Philly as a stray. We know she was someone’s house pet at some point because she has very good house manners. She is so quiet and polite in the house. She gets a room to herself when we’re away and she doesn’t bother anything in the room. No chewing, no destruction. She’ll sneak up into the bed but that’s it.

Her sweetness extends to cats! She mostly ignores our resident cat, at times she calmly looks at him like he’s the most interesting thing she’s ever seen but keeps her distance. Our cat ignores her and shows no fear of her. They’ll sit at the door together watching what’s going on outside. She loves hanging out with the other dogs in the house, and tries to get them to play, showing off that she has some pep in her step. She doesn’t need much exercise. She’s pretty low key. She sits patiently for her food. She doesn’t “require” being on the couch and will settle at your feet (but she really kind of loves snuggling on the couch). She’s kind of the perfect dog waiting for someone who needs an easy, loving dog.

Sweetums doesn’t ask for much. A comfy bed. A hand to pet her. A face to kiss. She wants so much to please you and merely needs to be reminded that she is a good dog and a loved dog.
