Winston

Winston

Age:Senior (approx. 10-12)

Weight: 93lbs

Location: Hamilton Township, NJ

Nicknames:

Good with other dogs?: Dog selective.
Winston doesn’t show much interest in other dogs and would do great as an only dog; however, he is also fine coexisting with a similar low energy dog. He would not do well with an active playful dog. He has some weakness in his back legs that cause him to be unsteady on his feet if knocked into and he is sensitive of his back end in general.

Good with cats? unknown, will not be adopted to a home with a cat

Good with children? OK for kids over: 12

Activity Preference: Low maintenance overall but needs quality outside time., Will go with the flow, Champion couch potato, “Energy, do you mean like walking to my food bowl?”, other: Loves his walks but gets tired quickly

IQ: Average

Winston’s favorite things: Winston loves his treats, chew toys (coffee wood and durable rubber chews), his soft bed and crate, baby talk, belly rubs, kisses, and happy energy.

Winston is good at: meeting people, staying in a crate, behaving in the house, going for car rides, walking on a leash, playing

Ideal home: no children, quiet environment, someone at home most of the day, a fenced yard, other: a strong person to help lift his back end when getting in the car

Training Needs:

Health issues: Winston is currently on Carprofen for his back end pain and it helps his mobility. He also has skin allergies that result in hives. He recently finished a course of cefpodoxime to help with bacterial infection from this issue. The vet suspects he will always suffer from skin allergies and management is trial and error. He is currently using a medicated dry shampoo as well. In July Winston had a perianal gland carcinoma mass removed. It was described as an uncommon, low-grade malignant neoplasm with low risk of metastasis. He has done well since the surgery with no complications.

Meet Winston

Winston is a sweet senior with so much love to give! He was saved from the time-stamp list at the Trenton animal shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia due only to lack of space. He was scared and cautious when he first arrived but within a few days he was showing his true personality! Winston loves to be with his people and will wag his tail non stop while you are talking to him. He opens his whole mouth really wide to give the biggest kisses he can as his way of sharing his enthusiasm with you. Winston loves going out for a stroll and meeting new people. He is a strong boy at 93lbs (even though he doesn’t look it!) but he walks well when hooked on a front lead harness. At home he is happy to relax on the couch or on his orthopedic bed in his crate with the door open and chew on some toys or take a nap. Winston doesn’t quite know his size and given the chance he will sit in your lap and request cuddles. Winston is ready to meet you and show you what a good happy boy he is!
